Specialty Grade Coffee with Impact

Temperatures are rising and rainfall is decreasing in Cerrado, the Brazilian region where this coffee is grown. Environmental conservation is therefore a priority for coffee producers Daterra. They are the world’s first B Corp coffee farm, Brazil’s first Rainforest Alliance Certified farm, and recognised as carbon negative.

Impact story

Our Grutta coffee originates from the Cerrado region of Brazil. Imported via our partners Daterra, who are at the forefront of sustainability and innovation. Already the world’s first B Corp coffee farm, Daterra’s impassioned and unyielding commitment to environmental conservation has now resulted in them achieving carbon negative status.

Based in Cerrado, a region where temperatures are rising as rapidly as rainfall is decreasing, Daterra irrigates its crop using a self-sustaining reservoir established on five hectares of its land. 300,000 cubic metres of water can be stored here, delivering a much-needed

resource in an area where access to water is restricted and limited.

Daterra’s Boa Vista farm, one of three it cultivates, is powered almost entirely by solar energy. Plans for two further solar farms, and a second (larger) reservoir, are also in the pipeline, with plans to donate

any excess energy it produces to public institutions in the city of Patrocinio.

In addition, the farm has pledged to plant and restore 20 million trees across their estate to further increase their carbon sequestration and hopefully encourage some much-needed rainfall back into the area.

Sustainability

Precisely focusing our coffee impact

Rather than build our own impact goals we have used the United Nations’ framework of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide how we purchase our coffee. This enables us to align our impact with some of the biggest social and environmental challenges we face today.

UN Sustainability goals: 1, 8, 13, 15

1. No Poverty
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
13. Climate Action
15. Life On Land
